NUPG Newcomer Splash-In September 2017 All Welcome

As you can see you do NOT need any sort of posh underwater camera to learn the basics of taking a picture underwater !

NUPG are holding a special Splash-In event for newcomers to underwater photography on Saturday 23rd September, at the Capernwray dive site. Entrance is open to anyone who has not won or entered an underwater photography contest (excluding the NUPG monthly competition). There is NO entry fee into the competition and you do not have to be a member of NUPG to enter. The usual entrance charge for Capernwray will still apply though.

Our aim is to get those people who think no, my photos are not good enough to enter competitions, to think again and just see what you can do with your current underwater camera set-up. It can be a small waterproof compact designed for snorkelling or an IPhone, Olympus Tough or any other compact digital camera such as a mirror-less or even a DSLR in a proper underwater case. If you have a strobe but have never had any success when using it then bring it down and see what you can do. Been on an underwater photography course recently and want a chance to practice those new skills? this is the place.

To enter please tell us that you will be coming either through the event post on the NUPG Facebook page or by emailing Actual registration will be from 9am at Capernwray.

Yo-Han Cha (NUPG Chairman) will be in the car park, with an NUPG sign displayed at his car, ready to take registrations.

Experienced members of NUPG including Yo-Han Cha, Elaine White, Caroline and Nick Robertson-Brown will all be on hand over the course of the day to provide advice in taking your photographs and offering assistance in editing your images. To keep things fair editing will be permitted but only whole image alterations, no cropping or spot removal will be allowed.

Each entrant can submit up to 2 images, taken on any type of digital camera. Images should be submitted from 3pm to 3.30pm at the room provided by Capernwray for judging. Judging will be by public vote from approximately 3.45pm.
Frogfish Photography have kindly sponsored a trophy. For further information email

We look forward to welcoming you to this event 🙂
