NUPG August Meeting

NUPG held it’s August meeting on the 14th. Chairman Yo-Han Cha gave an interesting and informative talk about his recent trip to Komodo, where he fulfilled his long running ambition to see a manta ray. Yo-Han also managed to see dolphins underwater for the first time and encountered the famous Komodo dragons. It was interesting to hear about how he managed to dive in the area with a quite limited budget.

This month’s competition subject was Crustaceans. There were fifteen images entered, five of which were taken using compact cameras.

Elaine White won with an image of a common prawn. Anne Medcalf took second with a shot of a hermit crab, with Paul Ansell and Caroline Robertson-Brown taking joint third with pictures of freshwater crayfish and harlequin shrimp. Sue Spencer won the compact category with a shot of an unknown shrimp in a Scottish loch.

During the second half of the meeting we went through all the images that were entered in the competition and those entrants who were present talked about the equipment they used in taking the pictures. Members also brought their camera setups along to show each other and discuss what they use.
